The Big Transformation When Your House Becomes a Home
We at Goodwyn Homes get just as excited as you do during the building process. We’ve watched the foundation set and the framing go up, but there is one specific milestone that always feels like magic: Step 7—Drywall, Trim, and Paint!
If the framing is the "skeleton" of your home, Step 7 is the "skin and personality." This is the moment when those open wooden studs disappear and you can finally start imagining where your favorite chair will go. Let’s dive into why this stage is such a superstar in the journey to your front door!
From Studs to Structures: The Drywall Magic
Once your insulation is tucked in tight, it’s time for the walls to appear! We take sturdy sheets of drywall (you might know it as sheetrock) and nail them directly to the 2x4 upright boards, or "studs."
It’s a bit like a giant jigsaw puzzle! Our teams carefully cut smaller pieces for those irregular-shaped areas to ensure every single nook and cranny is covered. But we don't stop there. To make sure your walls look flawless:
- The Seams: We tape every joint where the boards meet.
- The Compound: We cover those seams with a joint compound to create one perfectly smooth expanse.
- The Finish: Everything is sanded down until it’s silky smooth, and then the ceilings are sprayed and textured for that professional, finished look.
The Finishing Touches: Trim & Cabinets
Once the walls are smooth and ready, the finish carpenters arrive! This is where the character of your home really starts to shine. They install all the interior doors and that beautiful molding that frames your rooms.
And then comes the delivery everyone waits for: The Cabinets! Seeing your kitchen and bathroom cabinets installed is a huge milestone. Suddenly, the "work zones" of your home are defined, and you can practically smell the first pot of coffee brewing in your new kitchen.
Curb Appeal is Calling!
While all that beautiful work is happening inside, things are moving fast on the outside, too! During Step 7:
- The Driveway: The concrete for your driveway is poured, giving your home its "red carpet" entrance.
- The Landscape: Your lawn and landscaping start going in! There’s nothing like seeing green grass and fresh shrubs to make a construction site feel like a private oasis.
The Home stretch!
Step 7 is the bridge between a "project" and a "property." It’s the stage where you stop seeing 2x4s and start seeing your family’s future. At Goodwyn Homes, we take extra pride in this step because we know these are the surfaces you’ll be touching and the walls that will hold your memories for years to come.
Pro-Tip: This is the perfect time to start picking out your furniture and window treatments! Now that the walls are up, you can get a true sense of the light and space in every room.
