How to Retexture Your Walls
If you’re planning on doing home renovation projects, then you’re going to want to really consider the work that you have cut out for you. Some of these projects will be a matter of preference while others will be a necessity. Goodwyn Buildings understands that when you buy a home you want it to be perfect. They are many people who buy older homes so that they can fix them up just the way they want them. Here is one of the home projects that you might be embarking on with your new home. Retexturing your walls might be on your to do list. There are a lot of people who aren’t into the texturized walls and just want them nice and smooth. This project can take awhile so you’ll want to be patient.
The first thing that you’re going to want to do is sand it all down. Yes, that is as daunting as it sounds. It is a huge project. Walls are tall and wide so don’t underestimate the work you have ahead of you. Just try and knock down the high texturized parts of the wall texture. Don’t sand it down too much because while you do need a smooth wall you also need an even wall. Take it one room at a time. As you sand it down make sure that you have enough plastic tarp down for easy clean up. You don’t want to have to worry about vacuuming that kind of dust out of your carpet. If you’re planning on redoing the floor, then you’re going to want to first remove the floor first so that you don’t even have to worry about the mess it will make.
After you have accomplished this, you’re now ready to apply a layer of topping compound. Add a little water to compound in order to make it smoother when you apply it to the wall. As you do this make sure that you’re applying it evenly across the wall. It can be very easy to start putting it on thicker in some areas without even knowing it. After you have applied this make sure to let it dry completely. After that is done then you will need to start the sanding process all over again. Don’t make it anything intensive, just a light sanding. If you find some low spots, you’ll need to add a little more compound to get it even. When you do this make sure to let it dry fully and sand those spots as well.
After this long process you’re ready to apply a sealer to prevent the wall from form some discolorations that happens when there is uneven absorption of the paint. At this point you’re ready to either apply a different texture to the walls or to paint it the way you would like it. At the end of the day it is going to be a long hard project.
