Choosing a New Home

Think About Your Future

You have already made a great decision regarding your future simply by investing in a home. One of the most important factors that you should consider when choosing a new home is your children. You should make sure your home has growing room as your children grow up. Will they need a room of their own? Or should you choose a plan that separates the master bedroom from the noisy children’s room. And will that teenager need a car? Is parking space adequate for the family and friends? Consider the kids moving out as well.

Maybe you are single and would consider taking on roommates in the future. A couple roommates could be a very lucrative decision. Do you have a plan that would work well for a variety of people, and could that plan resell well?

Location

It’s no secret that location is very important. Don’t just look for a safe attractive community. Find one where you can enjoy the immediate surroundings. Bishop Place in MIllbrook has the wonderful Alabama Wildlife Federation nature park. Again, think about what your children would be interested in in the future, as well as your own changing personal interest. Visit your neighborhood at different times of day or night to get an idea of the noise or safety level. Keep traffic levels in mind as you consider your rout to work or school.

Home Model Specific Needs

In the kitchen keep in mind your personal dining habits. Many of the Goodwyn plans come with a raised bar that are great for entertaining groups, parties or grabbing a quick snack.

Most people spend lots of time in the living room. As televisions become larger and thinner, Goodwyn Building as adapted their homes for that. Most of their models have a perfect place for that flatscreen tv just above the fireplace. All homes are already wired for internet and cable tv.

Keep in mind the size of the backyard as well. Will the kids want a dog. Will you need a fence? What size porch will you need? Fencing and porch size can customized at the building stage. Sod is included with all homes. Think about the direction of the home as well. Where will the sun rise and set? North is the best direction for the room that you are in the most to be facing. It will get the most sun and it is also the easiest to shade. Are you a gardener? Will you get adequate sunlight for that?
